Hey all, I went out to shag rock in Clearlake. I launched out of state park and paddled over to shag rock. The Crappie are in there really thick anywhere from 15 to 25 feet below. Most of them are about hand size.  You can easily pull a limit within an hour. A lot of us were also getting catfish in the 10 to 20 pound range in about 40 feet of water.

Thanks for the info. Great report! Did you get the crappie on jigs or minners?

I paddled from the state park to shag rock yesterday. It is farther than it looks but no wind it was absolutely beautiful.

Wow that is a long bomb. Braitos Marina would be a lot closer launch to hit shag, and last time I was their the did not charge to launch a kayak.

Your welcome Sailfish.  Hey Crash, that's awesome your daughter caught a catfish!  Sorry you didn't get any crappie or bass.  But a priceless memory was made.  It is a haul, but growing up rowing in Hawaii, i sometimes don't realize distance, and just enjoy the journey.  Yeah I like state park, peaceful, clean stocked bathrooms.  I usually launch out of there.  Sorry I didn't know about Braitos Marina.  Thanks Clearlake Kid.

You are correct in that Braito's doesn't charge for kayak launching.  The only exception is if you fish overnight.  If you're there when they close and come off the water after they reopen in the morning they ask for $5 for the overnight parking.  It's still a deal as I'm pretty comfortable leaving my truck there overnight and so far I haven't had any issues with people bothering my stuff there.
