In perusing this forum the vibrancy/closeness of the community is apparent as is rapid innovation in technique/equipment. I have seen this before and if prior experiences holds it’s what I consider the sweet spot in the progression from activity to sport. Being a fair degree asocial and a committed generalist I might have never posted anything had the following not been the case. The settings on the forum are such that having registered I am blocked from viewing anything unless I make an introductory post (not a fan of that policy). But, I did register for the forum because I was quite impressed by the character of the community and thought at some point I might want to be more involved. Thus, I had the choice to clear cookies, etc and continue on as I was or post an introduction. Congratulations you jackbooted me into becoming an active member. There goes the neighborhood. Tongue… in… cheek… I genuinely respect this group and if I have something to contribute I will try to do so.

A more conventional introduction would be as follows. I was born and grew up in the mountains of OR and CA (e.g. more than 10 miles to the nearest neighbor & no running water or power). In my life I have been a serious backcountry soloist across/bridging many domains and environments. I am competent fishing in freshwater and  intertidal areas. Over the next year I intend to make a concentrated effort to develop skills in nearshore and inshore kayak fishing. When backpacking and on river trips I count on catching fish to meet nutrition needs. This next year I want to see how close I can get to developing similarly reliable methods for ocean based trips. I am regularly out and about from Point Richmond up through the Marin headlands (San Mateo, Monterey, and or Sonoma counties once or twice a month) and would be interested in doing some non-solo fishing.

Welcome, as far as the neighborhood is concerned it has been gone for a while  :smt003

There's usually always someone posting a hookup so no need to go solo. If not feel free to post up your own.

Welcome and glad you decided to introduce yourself. There are many lurkers which is not a bad way to get safety info and you will end up getting  hooked.  A little intro helps break the ice and gives other anglers an idea of who is in their area or who visits places they like to fish.  It helps when someone posts a hook up so glad you broke down and did it.

There are other forum areas that require more post to access.  I believe it's to encourage participation and to keep people from signing up just to try and sell something.

What a great intro!  Thanks for stepping into the light.

Feeding oneself while on expedition should not be a problem provided ground fish and or salmon season is open, otherwise it's halibut, perch, sand dabs, crab, or diving. Welcome, Amos
