Adam - I have 512 MB on my card = IMO, more than enough. The reg. battery will last - I've used mine on 4 day trips and never had to worry about running out of juice. Enjoy!!!!

Oh...and like what Al had suggested, buy a float.  :smt002

I recently bought a w20 also and I got a 2gig card with mine for about 40 bucks.  I plan on taking some video with mine snowboarding this winter and with the 2gig card it will hold about 30 minutes of video or 500-600 highest resolution pics approx.  Definatly get a float.  I have been using a small piece of pool noodle zip-tied to my camera.

My friend has the Optio W20, and loves it.  The interface is easy to use, it has been durable, resisted salt water intrusion, and taken great pictures for him ( for a point- and shoot)

I have been doing some resaearch, and was considering the optio w20 or its closest competitor, the Olympus Stylus 720sw http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1225, another point-and-shoot waterproof (supposedly also "shock proof to a 5 foot dead drop").  It also supposedly has an "image stabilization" feature. the 720 sw costs a little more. Both cameras have very nice, large viewing screens.  I have read that in sunny conditions, the Pentax Optio W20's viewing screen can be a little hard to see, and that its pictures tend to be on the dark side in lower-light conditions, even when adjusting the settings accordingly.  This is all heresay from web reviews, and I know firsthand that my friend's pictures looked really good.  My general impression from the reviews that I read were that people were just as pleased if not more so with the Pentax OptioW20 as with the Olympus Stylus720SW, and it costs  less.  They seemed to like the Pentax user interface more.

Got the w10 and 1 gig card.  You can get extra battery for about $20 on E-bay.

As for Memory Cards, they are not all equal across brands.  Like many memory and storage manufacturers, some have more integrity and Durability than others, and that difference is also generally reflected in the price.  Go online to pay 1/2 or less than you would in a camera store, or even Big Box-type retailer.  I have asked some geeks who looked and sounded like they knew their stuff, as well as doing some homework on the web, and the top 2 Manufaturers for integrity and durability (resistance to file errors and physical damage) seemed to be ATP and Lexar, followed not so closely by SanDisk.  I'm sure there are other quality manufacturers out there, but these seemed to be the repeat winners in the review ratings.

If you plan on taking video or rapid- succession photographs, you will want to buy a high-speed card, or else your video length will be limited by the cache size (For example, 1 gig might take 20 minutes of video in its " belly", but it can only take 30 second "mouthfuls before it has to stop and write to the card ("swallow")  I got an ATP super-high speed (150x) 2.0 Gb card for about $110.  At the time that I bought it, that was a pretty fancy card.. kind of overkill for my middle-of the line camera. It was priced at $280 in the local camera shop. here's a link to a pretty darn nice card.  You don't need this nice, but you'll be able to tell the difference.  Good reliability, long life, as many pictures as you can take, and long videos if you want: http://www.nulime.com/Lexar-Media-1GB-40X-High-Speed-SD-Card-SD-Memory-Cards-Memory-p96473-c2416.html

Thanks to ALL for the rapid replies! I took Travis' advise (THANKS) and got the SCANDISK 2.0 =$60 (-$20rebate) $40.oo total
I'm new to this hi-tech stuff so this one was not too $$ and 30min of video sounds like plenty.

I read that it will take time to process info when shooting in video mode if you dont have a high speed something or other(card)? haven't crossed that bridge yet ,so I dont know yet.....just wondering....

the camera has already been put into fish picturing action! Thanks again!
