Just out of curiosity, if a plastic and a fiberglass kayak weigh the same amount, what is the advantage to fiberglass?

Craig, you should check with Tim Niemier if he can provide some history on this beauty or any recommendations on keeping it "stock" on your "rebuild".  Heck, he might try to buy it off you.  I know he was looking for one of these at some point.

   Let's make a mold and fabricate "re-productions"  in carbon fiber.     Bet that could hit under the 20 lb mark.

That would be an interesting project. I am losing some weight and would be motivated to lose more by the prospect of paddling such a kayak.

Has anyone priced out carbon fiber? Kevlar is not much heavier and more affordable. Least expensive would be glass.
