Made a plan with some buddies and Eugene (visiting from Canada and posted on NCUH looking for a dive buddy) to get a dive in before the game.

I wanted to put some time in a less famillar area rather than hitting up the usual reefs and cracks...

Well, my plan didn't really pay off in terms of finding the big sexy fish that I was hoping for, BUT it was a beautiful day, great viz, and we could have all easily taken limits of RF and small Lings if we wanted.

Met Eugene and my good buddy Mike (mikemcg) at my house at 530 am and headed down to the chosen beach. Little bumpy, but not too bad really.

Put Eugene in my old BigYak and gave him the RA70 and I hunted with the Pathos 75.

Really enjoyed getting to paddle and dive with Eugene...super nice guy!!

The first spot was pretty dead but I blasted a big Monkey and ended up getting my shaft stuck cuz I'm a big dummy  :smt012 so had to bust out the old Riffe 00 peashooter.  :smt005

Moved spots and found a lot more fish (lot of schooling blues, a TON of halfmoons, small cabs hiding out on the rocks, and male Lings all over) and really cool pinnacles and structure that came up to 20 feet and dropped off to 50+ on the sides.

Mike also spotted a female sheep but missed the shot. DOH!   :smt010

My first time using some new Bleutec Blades carbon fins that I got from damanij and Red Triangle Spearfishing.

Once I got in deeper water I could really tell the difference with these fins compared to my old plastic Mares Razors. Much more efficient and had no problem cruising easily down to 50+ feet.

Best dive of the day for me was 58 feet for 58 seconds, and if you've ever dove with me you know that is a good dive for my cruddy depths/bottom times.

Anyway, glad I got to spend the day with Eugene and Mike and I always enjoy checking out new territory even when it doesn't really pay off.

Here's a mini vid of the two little 25 inch lings I took.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”
