Well, I have been searching on this forum and it seems no one had a great deal of luck with sand dabs in HMB.

I might head out this weekend but have not read any solid reports on where they are targeted.

I don't have a fishfinder yet so I am not sure where to target them; if they are even there.

It would be great if someone can provide coordinates or marks of success.

Thanks.

The water normally considered to be the crabbing zone for yaks is pretty shallow for dabs.  They're there as evidenced in the videos from people that attached a gopro to their crab pot.....but they're micro dabs and small numbers of them.

The dabbin territory is outside the reef that generally runs n to s the length of the bay.....that's a long paddle and a lot more exposure to wind and swell.

Asking for numbers....even for dabs, isn't gonna garner you a whole lotta help.    :smt002

Looking on google maps.  The paddle outside the reef is 2 miles from the jetty.  No one ventures out there on a yak?     Forgive my newbness.  :secret

careful out near the green cans/jetty area. this is mavericks and lots of sneaker waves around that area. there is also an MLPA near that area.

You're better off checking a chart and looking at the contour lines to check the depth in the area.  Other side of the reef will still only put you in 90-100 feet.  I haven't really fished em shallower than +150', that'll put you out around the 3 mile line.  The predominant nw swell and wind aren't gonna help at all on that paddle back unless you fish out past the smca.  And if there's any kind of swell you'll want to mind fishcomb's advice and avoid the highspots.

You can probably get em at 2 miles in shallower water but I'd wager they're still gonna be small and less abundant. I'm sure people have fished them there though, it'd be a lot of work for dabs.

Thanks for the advice.  I guess i should head back out to monterey.  Its just so long of a drive for dabs.  Different if it was for rock fish id be more inclinded to be on the road.

You don't have to go that far south....you can reach deeper water from pescadero, davenport, moss landing.  Then maybe you can share the coordinates with us :)
