Interested in hearing about how this has worked.  I know the long range guys started using it long ago, but is anyone using it for bass, rockfish?  Your thoughts?

Wanted to try it, but the cost of respooling a reel with good powerpro keeps me from trying it.

The advantages of using hollow braid vs. solid braid is that there is no knot to connect your top shot or leader to the braided main line.  Your leader or top shot is inserted into the hollow braid and the leading edge is pinched either by a serving method, crimp, or glue.  By pinching the leading edge of the hollow braid, the rest of the inserted mono or fluorocarbon is held tightly by the Chinese finger toy effect.  It is extremely strong if done right and that's why many Big Game long ranger's use this technique.  Also by using crimps for attaching your hook, you can have a completely knotless system.  Another advantage is that hollow braid can be spliced together seamlessly, so if you have a damaged section or super bird's nest, you can cut it out and rejoin it like magic.
For Bass or Rockfish this method is overkill.  For our area, I'd use it for Pacific Halibut, Sturgeon, or White Sea Bass.

I started using splices/crimps for Long range fishing for the "sano" knotless rigs.
Up here I sometimes make up leaders or topshots with hollow spectra loop ends. Then I can use loop to loop connections that will roll right through the tip guide.
But you could just tie an FG knot instead.
Making hollow splices are a useful skill to have for fishing, making your own flylines, leaders, etc.

Well thanks guys for the input.  I suspected that this was not practical/cost effective for fishing for smaller species.  I sure like the idea of getting rid of the knot.  That was my main reason for considering the hollow stuff.  Anyway, will give the FG knot a try tomorrow when I spool up a new Toro 50.  Thanks again!
