So yesterday I ordered new drags for all of my reels.

penn 500
2 curados
abu 6500c3
abu 4600cb

In addition, I ordered new drag plates, cals grease and a stainless steel pinion yolk for the penn 500.

I hope to have them by friday so I can install my new drags for the Striper tourney this weekend.

With the SS pinion yolk, I should have an almost entirely SS interior to my penn 500 after modding it.

I will do some photo essays a-la Tani as I fix up the reels for your viewing pleasure.

on the abus, put a little grease on the c clip safety for the handle nut BEFORE you try to take it off.
this way it has a bit more chance of not flying across the garage floor, never to be seen again.

that is the only abu part that seems to want to shoot across the room like that.

also, you might also consider a stainless 5.3:1 pinion gear for you abus from dkstenson on ebay.

Yeah, I already lost a c clip from my 4600 due to it flying into the ether...  :smt013

I'll look for that gear.  Thanks.

Carbontex is here!!

That is some fast service.  I got everything, but the metal drag washers for my 6500.  Sweet.  Carbontex drags for the striper tourney.

I just installed the carbontex drags in my curados.

I learned two very good lessons.

Lesson 1.

Left handed curados (Like my 201B and 201BSF) have reversed thread on the gear sleave.  I pretty well mucked up my 201B finding this out the hard way.  It is functional, but I will need to replace the gear sleave and handle nut.....DOH!

Lesson 2.

I should have done this LONG ago.  The carbontex drag washers combined with the fine ground drag plate......Like Buttah!  I cannot wait to see these in real action.

Super duper easy to install, excepting the mistake with the threads on the one reel.

I'm still waiting on some parts for my other reels and also waiting for the gear lube and oil so I will have to back in to all my reels to finish the job, but I really wanted to get the carbontex installed in the reels that I will use for this weekend.

I already got some carbon drags for my Epixor spinning reel from Alan Tani.  I'm good to go.

Super smooooooooooth from smooth drag!!
