I was going to try and catch some surf perch on sat. Before crab fest.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to use and where to go.  Thanks

I'll be doing it for sure. Guys, rigging is a simple Carolina style set up, and use Berkely Gulp Grubs, in Camo or Motoroil, or a 4" Pileworms  in similar colors. I throw a 3/4 ounce egg weight. Look for anomalies in the water surface, and try and drop behind the break, with a slow retrieve.

See you out there!!

I'm in, but I would much prefer to fish off the kayak if the opportunity presents itself.

I also prefer really light gear. I fish a small 6' FW rod with spinning reel loaded with 15lb test. I'm not much for standing in the sand, I dawn waders and work the surf, "KEY" Walk the shore line, so a larger casting rod isn't needed. I also find that I hook up almost at my ankles more so than not when the bite is on, so a huge cast isn't needed either.

I was out there today and only caught one, but it was right at shore, on a small trout rod with 8lb test, bring some egg weights for sure up to 3/4 oz.  small tackle makes it fun. I ran into a guy out there that swears by the gulp red worms and gulp fake crabs, he even reported that a few stripers are being caught in the surf!
