I want to get my yak into the garage and hanging it looks like a good option

So far the ones made by Harken look best, hard to say without trying it

I also thought about going to west marine and just rigging up something w tackle

I store one of my kayaks with a hoist pulley system.  WOrks fine, although I do bump my head on it from time to time.

Blue I've had two harkens in use for 7-8 years, works great. The only tricky thing was figuring out where to run the hoist ropes and the operation of the garage door.

Yeah I'm pretty handy but could picture getting the whole thing rigged up and my kayak going up and down when I opened and closed the garage door, which is a piece of shit and needs replacing

Did you use their 2 or 4 point kits?

I hoist my OB up with pulley's  I got at West Marine.  2  red ratchet type straps hold the hull and 2 bouble and 2 single pulleys do all the up and down work.

Whatever you come up with you want to try and hang it so it sits vertically from side to side rather than horizontal to prevent deformation of the composite.

:smt006 I ended up with two for my birthday that I have not used.

This is one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EUL2DO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another just like it.  Willing to sell you one or both if you want. Just PM me and we can work out the details.  Open to some money, or trade  :smt003

I used the 4 point, I also have 2 kayaks hanging from one set-up, and a single on the other.
