I've been wanting a FF in the yak for quite some time and finally did it.  ended up getting the garmin 151dv powered by the Hummingbird gel battery pack.  really the only thing that's been holing this project up was the battery and which one best suited the unit I was going to end up with.
The xfactor has a Lowrance only transducer ready mount near one of the skegs but I just felt like the Garmin was going to be a better choice with screen size/ technology/ price.  I love Lowrance and run their gear in our boat, but I'm excited to try out Garmin stuff.
Everything went really well.  not a very difficult job except for the transducer.  wow what a mess trying to foam block that inside the hull.  there weren't any real flat spots to just set down the foam, so had to use extra silicone to fill the gaps.  So if it doesn't work out, ill just have to make a new mount and put it in the preset transducer slot underneath.
as you'll see, I mounted the head unit on the underside of a hatch.  I dive and spearfish off the yak 99.99% of the time, so all I need to be able to do is launch and get to a spot and lock it away.  I understand that running with an open hatch might be risky but the likelihood of flipping and swamping an xfactor is small and don't normally dive in hazardous conditions. and if I do flip, I'm already wearing my 7mil suit so it shouldn't be too bad.
Going to take it out tomorrow and see how it looks.
