I just read this in the Lawson's Landing fishing report. Anyone know anything about it?

"Rockfishing from boats is closed now but may reopen as soon as April 15 if the Fish and Game Commission passes their proposed changes. Also likely, a three fish limit for lingcod and a five fish limit for black rockfish. Start studying now for your black vs. blue rockfish identification."

That'd b great for a 3 ling bag!  5 black rf is still a lot of meat...

Oregon just made some changes too. No more China, quillback or copper retention, one canary allowed.

Oh that sucks, I hope they wont implement that here in NorCal. China and copper are my favorite RF....

Those changes are good.  Never take more than a couple rock fish and it will be nice to get two lings and be able to get a third if a big boy comes along.  Otherwise I will limit myself at one or two anyways.

They should just impose that 5 limit on both black and blue because i'm pretty sure your average weekend fisherman is gonna get ticketed based on the "i didn't know argument"

great way to get some revenue and waste peoples time in court  :smt010

While I think the sub limits on rockfish are good, and I'm certainly OK with a 3 ling limit, I'm most interested in the potential April 15th opening date :smt002

Another thing oregon did that I can't picture california doing is impose a 3 blue sublimit despite a recommendation of a one fish sublimit. Reason?  To not punish unwary anglers over misidentification of blue vs black. That seems like a sure spot for the PRC to play "gotcha" instead of working with the knowledge set of the casual angler.

"The North lost any season and depth extensions because of the Minor Nearshore Complex (China, brown, quillback and several other occasionally caught rockfish.  Our Leadership punted on this one and gave it away...bottom line is we will have a Federal harvest guideline of 23.7 mt (about our average over the last 8 years) but Or and WA are the big problem.  Or and Wa will have a shared management scenario, and Or is the high harvest rate of over 45 mt.  With the area north of 40 10' reduced from 94 to 69 mt HG, Ca can be shut down when we reach 75% of 23.7 or 16 mt.  That could be a big problem for us.  It may just mean you can't keep any of the fish from the complex if you catch one, at worst our season could be shut off.  We won't know what's in store until it happens.  I'm really fried over the CA Delegation on this one.  They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.  This was a purely political decision, and I have no idea why they did this.  Some off-line discussion preceded this decision."

I brought this up a couple of weeks ago. I have heard this before. after doing some research I have found that people are keeping tight lipped about it. the only answer I get when talking to the DFW is you have to wait until the new regs come out. when I ask when that will be they say soon....
