I'll be offering a surf zone clinic geared towards the kayak fisherman. Topics covered will include dressing for immersion, preparing your boat and gear to get soaked. Launching your rigged kayak through waves, and landing safely at the beach with gear intact.

This will cover the better part of the morning with a potluck lunch followed by an afternoon of fishing and crabbing out of Trinidad Cove. This event is open to all NCKA'ers no exp nec. There is no cost other than show up with some grub to share

I am a pro instuctor, certified and trained to coach others progressing in the many disciplined modes of kayaking. check out my website-- Humboats.com for more information

John,
Thanks for offering this. I would encourage *every* NKCS kayaker to do this if you can fit it in. John has ACA (costal kayak instructor)  and BCU (4-star) rankings which are significant achievements and indicate a solid professional stature. Based on this, I believe you'll come away much better equipped to deal with the unforseen out on the wild Big Blue and with surf launchings and landings. I am penciling, no *inking*, this in my calendar. And Rockfish will still be in season  :smt007. Though Lingcod won't  :smt010. Guess I may have to bring some food jsut in case :smt012

I'm in! The weekend of the 12/9 is blocked out for your lesson. Crabbing, rockfish? Sounds like cappino and surf. Need suggestions on RV parking.

Where are you going to be holding this lesson?  I would love to be there.  My schedule this weekend is kind of crazy already, :smt013 but hopefully I can fit this in!  I definately need it!  :smt012

For those of you that haven't taken a class like this if you can...take it. It could save your  life or at the very least make your saltwater fishing less scarier and more enjoyable.
Excellent of you to share your knowledge Swellrider.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

I originally posted this on the calendar and I think the date and time didn't make it to the thread. To clarify-- the date and time for this event is Dec 9th 8am-1pm at Trinidad Cove in Humboldt county. There is plenty of camping and RV parking all around trinidad. There is Clam beach county park a few minutes away with on the beach campsites and Rv parking. North of trinidad about ten minutes is The beautiful patricks point statepark with camping and RV spots. Further north there are the lagoons with private lagoon front camping and Rv space. Plenty of hotels and bed & breakfast in trinidad also.

So again sorry for any confusion I just posted the event early to give folks some notice. It is good stuff I'll be sharing with you. My motivation is to get more guys and gals comfortable with where the ocean meets the land and to meet some of my NCKA buddies.

If you are interested please send me a pm or email me at [email protected] so I can put you on the list. I'll send out a list of Items to bring along closer to the date. I have 3 X-Factors,  an extreme, a prowler 13 and some pro 2 tandems to use as well as a limited supply of wetsuits, helmets and gear. I encourage you to bring your own gear but I will have these Items on hand for those of you who need or couldn't transport. Do plan on bringing something for the afternoon feast. Most likely to be an on the beach crab feed.
