I was dusting off my Steelie Gear and
My favorite Combo a GL3 930C and a Morrum 3600 has an issue. I have noticed the last few years that the cork was separating from the trigger a bit, and now the reel seat shifts from side to side, I guess the glue gave up underneath.  Anyone ever have this happen? Any ideas on a Fix ?

Maybe inject epoxy with a syringe , or send it in.

To do it right you need to remove the reel seat and re-epoxy it in place. You will probably have to have a section on your cork handle replaced too.

don't really want to rewrap all the guides

That's what I'm thinking just don't know if I have to glue the sleeve or the seat? Can't really send it back as Loomis doesn't make that rod any longer and they don't make rods like they used to.

Edited:

You leave the guides alone if the reel seat and a section of the cork handle can be loosened and moved out of the way to properly re glue. You will probably be able to reuse the reel seat but not sure about the section of cork handle. If the cork needs to be replaced then you might need to re wrap your guides too.

Injecting epoxy into the reel seat is more of a temp fix. But then again it might work for years.

I would do it right the first time.

I'll fix it for you Mike. If I can salvage it no cost. If it needs to be rebuilt, a new handle costs $20-30. Shoot me a pm.

Thanks for the generous offer Scott I might take you up on it in the off season, I might try and fix it myself I can always run over to KZ's house if I get stuck. When I  mount the reel and tighten it up a bit more it's solid so I might be good for awhile anyway. After many e-mails to Loomis they told me that they would not repair it but would upgrade me to an IMX (since they no longer make the 930) and gave me a couple of choices. So I went to ODP Shop and didn't really like any of them. Luck would  have it I was cruzing CL and the first ad is a new one for sale go see it brand new never been used $160 deal really happy with my Xmas Gift to me.

Dave that Fenwick is the best all around Steelhead rod I have ever seen. Wife bought that rod for me in 1983($90) and I have been constantly looking for a rod that measures up and have yet to find one sorta funny that no one has come out with a rod that's comparable. I've caught over 400 Steelies, lots of Stripers and a couple of Dinos on that rod and it's still in great shape. I'm so afraid of breaking it I only use it when I am walking a river. Guides are still in great shape windings tight no cracking reel seat still tight. I am constantly cruzing E-Bay hoping some one has one for sale, a few years ago I bought the same rod in spinning from a shop on the east coast for $90 and it was like new might have it re-wrapped to casting guides some day if I ever break mine.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Jim Green for a few days on the Russian ,Gualala and Garcia and he had few  a prototypes of this rod that he let us try, that's what made me want one. Might be an emotional attachment but it's a great rod, newer is not always better.

Old can be awesome. Not me, my old Fenwick graphite Salmon Steelhead rod. Saved up my allowance to buy it slightly used in the late 70's for almost $200. That was a lot of money back then. Worth every penny.
Have a similar problem.  The seat shifts. I have tried a couple types of glue and it has only lasted a trip or two each time. Thinking of having the cork and seat replaced. Guess I should go with high density foam for its floatability  (is that a real word?) and durability as I've been using it ok the kayak a lot.

Wow that's $750.56 in todays dollars, yea those rods were not cheap, mine was bought at a Gemco going out of business sale. It would be sacrilege to replace cork with foam on one of these. Plus the foam will not last 30+ years. What model is it?

Mike I'd consider drilling a hole or two where it won't interfere with the reel threads. Then try some of that gorilla glue. Only because that stuff expands a bunch and has a better chance of hitting more of the available gluing surface. I think you'd have a tough time getting epoxy to squeeze into to the crevices. Plug the hole with tight tape after you shoot it in so it forces it to squeeze into the tight spots.  I don't generally like that Gorilla glue, but in this case I think the expanding nature of the glue would be a big advantage.
