If your gonna drink, at least wear a life jacket please.  I hate stories like this.  So easily avoided by just wearing a life jacket.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

No doubt. Drunk, buzzed, sober, or just plain stupid, so many of these tragic stories could be completely avoided by using a PDF.  Just wear one, case closed.  :smt012

This is really sad... We KNOW that PFDs save lives, and yet there are still people who choose not to wear them.

Thanks for posting... In case anyone needed a reminder...

I hate seeing these stories. My family and I also ride quads and it is the same thing. somebody gets killed because
they were not wearing a helmet. The worst part is the Gov. starts closing down ATV areas and riding areas due to someone not being responsible. I feel so sorry for the family that is going through this, so avoidable, and something as easy as putting on a PFD could have avoided a death!!!! I won't let anybody I bring into the sport go without a PFD even in the lake during the summer, you just never know when something bad might happen.

And my nice wondered why I chewed her out for not wearing a PFD while Kayaking on Lake Tahoe sipping a beer with no PFD.  Her excuse, "I know how to swim"

My wife and I wear helmets climbing, biking, caving and a PFD on a boat and a BC while diving cause shit happens.

My rules are if you don't wear the proper safety gear you don't get to go with us,  period ( I have spares to lend).

Unfortunately the easier a type of boat is to take out on the water the less likely that the person will know what they are doing. There are power boat and coast guard auxiliary and even kayak classes available but the only group that I know that commonly get lessons and safety instructions are scuba divers and sailors. I wonder how many kayakers have ever bothered to do a ditch and recovery drill.

I was checking boating deaths for a 12 month period and many time people fell overboard and did not have a PFD or had a PFD and their fellow crew members did not have a clue as to how to get them back on board the boat. A number of individuals were hoisted up by their PFD's and lacking a crotch strap the person in the water slipped out and was not to be seen again.
