I live in grass valley and have been thinking of starting up fishing again, now that the kids are grown.  I'm interested in pedal kayaks.

On the ocean with large swells, are pedal boats as stable as a yak with a paddle for balance?

Absolutely. We've been to water conditions where the boaters were all turning back and later figured we weren't supposed to be there in the first place and yet we were unscathed. What gets people in trouble more often is operator error rather than a kayak's "sea worthiness"

Oh and welcome aboard, Matt!

Welcome aboard.  Definitely test ride some.  One that works perfect for one guy may not feel comfortable to another.

Thanks all for the welcome.

I do have some experience.  We have a few cheap SOT paddle kayaks and a Hobie Mirage Sport (I think) that I have fished from a couple times.
I'm 6'2" and 265#, so am looking for a bigger pedal fishing kayak.  The Sport worked ok, but I need the rod holders and other accessories that make fishing easier (and it's my wife's, so I don't get to use it anyway).  Plus, I hate sitting in water, so would like the higher seat of something like the Pro Anglers.  Mainly looking at fishing local lakes in the vicinity of Grass Valley or up in the mountains.
