Just a quick update. Got the growth on my arm removed as well as a large mole on my back. The doc said the one on my arm was one of the rarest things he'd ever seen, having only seen two cases in his 30 years. The biopsies did not hurt, and only took about 10 for both. I'm going to a follow up on January tenth. Hopefully the tests are conclusive and positive.

Important to detect skin cancers early and have them removed. Not a time to worry about the expense which is trivial compared to the costs of treatment after it has metastasized and spread and then there is death to consider when weighing your options.

When I had a skin cancer removed I was struck by how nearly all the men had bandages on their ears. Ball caps do a good job of pulling hair away from the ears and that is why when sailing or diving or fishing I do not wear them, or any other time for that matter and instead wear a real hat.

Sunblock is also good but only for a couple of hours at best so the SPF shirts in a light color help the most. SPF 30 blocks 98% of UV and SPF 50 blocks 99% and SPF 100 blocked barely more than the SPF 50 and sun block can no longer be marked with this rating. So a higher SPF does not mean you can apply it less often or spend more time with your skin exposed without paying the price eventually.

We are fortunate that there is now so much sun blocking clothing available for fishing and other outdoor use.
