Are these a higher end version of the Daiwa SP Coastal Rod? The only reason I think that is because the base price is more expensive. Which one is good?

Here you go Ryan check out the video.

Daiwa SP coastal rods are on a level of their own. It was made mainly for surf casting with the salt pro minnow or other lures"stripe bass  :smt003"But you can use it for many applications. Best surf rod I ever bought at the price. They use the new k guides, similar to the what the high end rods like st.croix etc.

Yeah, I was just wondering because AmericanLegacy are selling the Daiwa TD-S Surf Rods for 40% off. So regular, $189 but I can get it for less than $90 with a gift certificate I have....

I had hoped that they were a better version of the Daiwa Salt Pro. But would rather just hang off and get the Daiwa SP if they are much better than the TD-S.

I haven't tried the Daiwa Coastal Rod yet but I've also heard good things about it. If I didn't already have enough surf rods, I would try it as well since I love throwing the SP minnows. I have both the St. Croix Legend 11' and mojo 11' . I really liked the mojo until it broke at the connecting section between the two pieces this season :( It was my fault for not having it on tight as they sometimes come loose after a while casting. I would recommend mojo though, it has 5 years warranty as well. It is only if you are serious about plugging the surf for stripers though. As for reels, a shimano size 4000 would be sufficient. Think light!! You do not need big heavy high capacity reels for surf fishing!

A bit of confusion about the Daiwa Coastal Surf Pro rods. As far as I can tell online, they are spinning rods only. No conventional.

However, a salesman at Guns Fishing and Hunting supply told me it was a conventional rod due to the guides being small. Spinning rods need bigger guides at the start due to teh way the line comes off a spinner vs conventional.

This threw me in for a loop so I wanted to verify that it is in fact a spinning rod. Thanks

For perch I use a 8' medium Ugly Stik with a Penn Battle 4000. Probably not the best rod for this kind of fishing but it works. For everything else I use a 10' St. Croix Mojo Surf rod with a Shimano Thunnus ci4 6000. The latter setup is bad ass and around your price range. I highly recommend it.

Good luck and stay dry.
