Merry Christmas to me.  After 6 years of making monthly payment on my diesel truck I finally paid it off.  Great feeling.  There's always a but though.  Going to have to invest in some serious maintenance because I was working it hard with my fifth wheel lately and still have a check engine light even though I keep checking it and it doesn't go out.  At least I can move the payment money into a Maintenance fund and get stuff taken care of.

This time I will just be happy it is paid for and not run out and buy a new one like I did the last two times I paid a vehicle off.  I am a slow learner.

I paid cash for my diesel truck (and all my cars) and saved over $5,000 in finance costs and got a better price from the dealer. If I have to finance a vehicle then I really cannot afford to buy it. Different for a work truck that is used to generate income.

Congrats, that's an awesome feeling ! I paid mine off about two years ago and remember having that same feeling of relief. In my case unfortunately, that was just in time for it to start seriously falling apart.  :smt011

Boats, cars, planes, they all suck the bank account dry if you don't buy wisely.  Sounds like you are catching on.

I go by that logic on everything except cars and a mortgage.

I knew the manager at the dealership who gave me a great price and the interest was minimal.  I usually get zero percent interest when I buy cars and get the cash price so I would rather invest more money into retirement when it works out like that.  Otherwise if the cash is easily avail I will spend it.  At least this way I have something to show for it.  I totally get cash is the best.   We gave up credit cards years ago and by the time it took us to cash out stocks or wait for a CD to mature we usually realized we could live without it and just leave the money where it is, but can access it for real emergencies.

Still want a 2015 Hobie so after the truck repairs that will be my next investment.

In my case unfortunately, that was just in time for it to start seriously falling apart.  :smt011

That's why I got this one because my previous trucks broke down right after I paid them off.  That's why I got the diesel this time. Hopefully the engine and tranny will keep going and I will only have to do minor repairs.  Still cheaper than getting a new one.

Congrats. I'll be sending in my first payment on Monday for my new 4Runner.

Love that new car smell.

Congratulations Duane. As long as we are talking financial strategies, I will throw this out there. I once knew a very successful wealthy guy who had his own yacht and airplane and was on his third divorce. The advice he gave me was:   " If it flies, floats or fucks, you are better off renting."
