Hey complete newbie to striper fishing. But Hoping for some set up suggestions.
I have a Curado 300 Reel but need a good rod to go with it and a suggestion on line size.
Im open to suggested fishing methods (trolling, jigging) as well.

I use a good bass rod 7ft minimum for all methods except fly fishing.

I use two ugly stik 8' med fast with 30# braid pro power moss green on slider and 2oz weight with leader 25# to 2/0 circle hook. Chovy, minnow and worm. Worms works great for me at the Forebay just sit and drift. Have not catch one on a lure yet.

I'm a bait guy when comes to stripers
I think I know what I’m doing?

We use to fly fish there in prams and float tubes , did well with a clouser minow my best fish was on a pooper at sun rise.
high d line . Let it sink and strip. The west coast records all came out of there with a fly from a local guy

Are you trolling, casting, or drifting bait?  For the most part, a 7ft medium spinning bass rod works for all of these situations for me.  I'd go a bit lighter though if trolling.  Most the fish are small, but if your doing bait, might want to go a bit bigger in case a huge one takes your line.

and late in the day you will often see them boiling at the surface. If you can get to them before they are gone you can throw a jerk bait in there and catch the heck out of them.

That's where I first started fishing when I was a little boy! 7ft medium heavy spinning rod does the trick for everything. When the sun comes up toss a top water lure. I would troll or use a minnow on a sliding sinker set up when the sun was high in the sky. Good luck and have fun
