Anyone here own, lease or drive an electric vehicle?  We're looking at (First look) Ford Focus.  I have a concern about it's total range.  My commute is 40 miles one way, and I have to travel to customer sites in Fremont, Milpitas and east San Jose (Way east, like Cottle road) Sometimes 100 miles a day.
Wife is fed up with the fuel costs of my CTD (Not getting rid of it!) Any complaints? praises? Other concerns? about electric vehicles? Electric only no gas.
Thanks!

This is the aprt that concerns me form the Ford website.
The Focus Electric gets all of its power from a state-of-the-art 23 kWh liquid-cooled, lithium-ion battery. It has an EPA-estimated range of 76 gas-free miles on each charge and is engineered to reach a top speed of 84 mph.*
76 miles is probably a stretch in traffic.

We did a team event where we test drove all the electric made by our customers...focus, leaf, fiat, Toyota plugin Prius..volt. Couple of folks ended up leasing fiats. You'd never want to buy an electric as the battery replacement costs are nutso. Each of those fiats get about 85, the two commutes are Sonoma to Marin, and Lafayette to Marin.

The recharge times are what kill the electrics for me right now, gotta wai a couple more years for the carbon-carbon batteries to drop those charge times to near a gas stop time.

I looked hard at the volt, great concept, but the body shape and such don't work for me. Neighbor has one, and he has to put fuel stabilizer in the damn tank cause he fils it up so rarely. His commute is Marin to sf.

I ended up getting a Prius v. I'm getting roughly 46mpg average, its better if the traffic is bad- up to 50. That's basically double the mileage of the Subaru. Amazing what saving 30 bucks a week will do.

Get the natural gas civic. Less then $20 to fill it up, 250 mile range and hov sticker. Lot cheaper to buy as well.

Proven technology used all over the world and no battery replacement costs.
