Check the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) ... assuming this vehicle uses one & doesn't have a "throttle cable" from the foot pedal to the fuel system.  $620 later (last week) and I learned how these things work on my Toyota.  Guess they are used in a lot of different models & tend to go out at the 150k mile mark.

Agree that the symptoms match this part as failing. When it goes completely it can do so without warning and you can find yourself on the freeway at zero miles per hour. Get this car to the dealer and get it fixed ASAP.

There are other parts that can cause similar symptoms but not these symptoms as those you describe exactly. Only an electronic part will work intermittently like this.

The good aspect of modern cars with all their electronic parts is that maintenance is needed far less frequently than in the past. The downside is that when they fail they can be more difficult to diagnose and they can provide less warning of imminent failure.
