not a by the book seafood soup...kind of a whats in the fridge and whats in the cupboard + what came off the sea this weekend
we saved , in a big plastic tub in the fridge-the old shells from fri-sat sun nights crab dinners ,after we picked all the meat we could off..tons of knuckles and such ,normally we toss that stuff without a thought, but, my buddy Ron said boil it and keep the base...sounded like an idea...

boiled it off...strained the junk away-kept the base and butter sauce-chilled all day in the fridge today

stopped by the market on the way home from work, and got some shrimp and mussels ---celery, green onion, green pepper,garlic---this years various spices garden got chopped dried in a big bag this fall- put in  big hand full of that
Then added a nice selection of rock fish*** gopher - blues - coppers -olives- from Carmel bay,and then tossed in a big ass Red rock crab from captain Tommy plus two dungy's
the house is smelling like dinner as I type  :smt007

Well done ! Big bowl of that, a dash of Crystal, and a hunk of crusty sourdough and you're set. Only thing that would make it better is a chilly rain coming down outside. Seriously nice work there.

It only took about an hour to pick them off the rocks and another  1-1/2 hours cleaning all the barnicals and other hitchhikers off the shell. But it was all worth it. Fresh picked mussels are a hundred times sweeter than the stuff i bought from the market.
Not a very good pic but this is how they looked before cleaning.

That's awesome!  When Sara make something like green curry shrimp and vegetables, she saves the heads and shells then boils them and uses the base in her curry.  Gives a nice rich flavor added to the dish!
