Ever lose something to the big blue knowing it's gone forever? Even if someone finds it?
Put a name and phone number on it.
On my GoPro, the very first pic on the SD card is my information. A pic which reads,THIS BELONGS TO: name, phone number, mailing address, email address.
My ab gauge, iron, spear gun all have my phone number engraved.
Not only does it provide the person who found it an easy opportunity to contact you, but who wouldn't want to meet someone of that character who would do that for you?

I use a label maker and add my name and contact info to my GoPro, fishing rods, etc.

Great idea about the first photo. If they can't view the photos it probably isn't worth getting back anyways, and the photos won't come off if it gets wet.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

For the computer savvy, lock the file on your SD card, and it wont get erased when you d/l the pics. (right click on file,  properties, check read-only)
