I definitely wouldn't spend for the conversion, like Fuzz said, costs more than the original reel.  I've used my original Jigmaster with 25 lb. test to catch yellowtail and tuna since I was 14, so about the last 17 years and I also caught my personal best 43 lb. bluefin on it, the only thing I've done is change the drags about 3 times and the gear shaft once.

I just installed a tiburon frame.

Looks SSWWwweeeeett!

My rod is wrapped in black and red thread, the jigmaster side plates are black bakelite and the frame and spool are red.  Looks very trick.

I put on an old school yellow pearlescent handle and It is total style.

I'm ordering a stainless steel gear sleeve, carbontex drag washers and Newel 5:1 gears next week.  I will soon have an old school tuna (sturgeon) subduing monster!!

I was amazed at the simplicity and elegance of the Penn 500.  The reel that I got the frame from was a tad older than my 500 and out of curiosity I completely dissassembled it.  I mean completely.  It is just brilliant design.  I will be donating that older 500 with my former frame in the upcoming MFF raffle (complete with new carbontex drag!).
