Question: I have a deer stand that lifts up and down using a hydraulic ram mounted in the back of my truck. Is this legal in the state of California? The only way to use it is if the truck is on flat ground and not moving. (Anonymous)

Answer: Unless you qualify for a disabled hunting license, the law prohibits shooting any game bird or mammal from a motor vehicle (Fish and Game Code, section 3002). This provision also applies to a vehicle-mounted deer stand. A legal alternative might be if the stand could be mounted onto a trailer that could then be detached from the vehicle.

Thanks Howard.  I always thought those PGE trucks would make a good deer stand.  I guess I'll have to scrap my idea to buy one and paint it camo. :smt044

Getting that mobility impaired license is about like a medical recommendation for pit. Hang nail? Here, road hunt n be careful. Bunion? Here, take this federal grant, go to Home Depot, get an illegal, he will be granted amnesty,  and can go with you to care for the game, and mow your lawn. Just gotta bringa doctor's note.

So how do you really feel?

These may be true but some opinions may change if you personally have to deal with a disability or know someone who really needs pot.  I personally can't climb because of my shoulder and neck injuries and if I wanted a doctor to say I should be given special permission to help me hunt I don't see a problem with that.  What about injured vets?  Should they not be allowed special consideration.  For now I am content hunting lower to the ground but maybe next year that camo pg&e truck may be an option.  As for pot never used it but my mother got cancer and started to use it for pain relief.  She is no pot head and actually has temp relief from it so as much as I am against it how can argue with that.

No experience with the Home Depot work labor issue because in the previous town we lived they banned people from soliciting work out side so never had to deal with it.  But for $10 an hour that may not be a bad idea to get someone to carry my kayak and gear or fish and game.  A grant seems to time consuming.

I had a med cannabis card. I meet all the criteria for a disabled person. Was shot in somalia, broken back and had surgery, I force myself to do what my body says "no" to frequently. Blind in one eye. I think I qualify to make that joke. (like blacks making jokes about blacks)
I do think that people that have the limitations should be afforded special accomodations in the field to allow them to get out there and enjoy it. My post was intended to be humorous. Maybe not the Home Depot joke, Lowes is better.
