So do all cabs smell as fishy as the ones I brought home from Cambria? I kept them iced and when I got home they had some slimy film all over them and smelt kind of bad. After I filleted they smelled better but not as fresh as I am used to. Any feed back? Don't think I will harvest any more. :smt006

I have noticed that sometimes they can smell a little funky...especially if I don't gut them right away OTW.

Never noticed any weird taste once cooked though.

Bleeding them OTW is probably the best way to keep the meat fresh. Cabs eat all types of sh*T. lol. I once saw a cab with a golf ball in its stomach.
Over all, when cooked, they are excellent table fare.  GOod to see you this weekend, we need to fish together more.

I've seen Jim eat all sorts of stuff right out of a cab's stomach.  No golf ball, though.

Decades ago I watch a fisherman clean a big girth rainbow trout at the stream besides the golf course in Weed.  It had a golf ball in its stomach.  Seeing is believing.

Usually if guts are left in but I usually leave in water until I get out so don't notice until I get home and don't fillet right away.  Never noticed a smell once the fillets were taken off but not usually big on frying whole fish.

I find that if I let them stay on ice for a day, they stink like hell.  I don't shoot many Cabazon just because I don't like the smell.

I think it's the slime personally.  I find that once the slime is washed off they smell significantly better.
