I want to take my kids out to the cape from Eureka. I heard its about 1 1/2 hour boat ride south once we get out to the whistle buoy.
How reliable is NOAA report for the area usually? It looks decent for tomorrow.
I hear that it can turn on a dime, any experience? Thanks

It's about a 25 mile run. The forecast does look good and I heard there will be other boats down there. Check out Humboldt tuna club . com. You can get reports and info there. You really don't know until you get down there as it's pretty isolated. It can be different than out front, so be prepared for anything. Monitor Channel 68 and you're hear a lot. Good luck.

Good advice, NotaSeal.

Running to the Cape is nothing to just jump right in to, HumMichael.  Be careful, and have fun.   :smt001

I've only been there by kayak, not power boat, but one main problem is if the typical North West winds come up it's "uphill" all the way back to the harbor.  Not a good thing.  I've gone uphill in a smaller powerboat for that distance before and it's no fun.
