Nice fish.  Napoleon was still around when that fish was born.  Amazing.

It wasn't sensational because Dave Strege is a veteran newspaper outdoor writer who has extensive fishing and hunting history. His story was sourced from my interviews with Joel Abrahamsson. I'm writing for the kayak fishing hardcore. When I pass a story to our affiliate GrindTV, it is rewritten to appeal to a mainstream audience, but that doesn't mean it has to be dramatized. I think the truth is dramatic enough.

My version for Kayak Fish includes a few more details that wouldn't mean anything to most Grind / Yahoo readers, such as tackle and bait used for this unusual mission.

Who would have thought an obscure northern shark that lives centuries would stand as the all-time kayak fishing record? Even if those scientists modestly miscalculated the length and girth, it would still obliterate the weight record.
