I finally caught one!  I paddled out to 125 -150 foot waters today and caught a small Mahi.   I had a much larger fish that gave me a sleigh ride for about 10 minutes, but lost him after the third time he took out line.  The Little mahi came after a big hit and line pull out.  I have been missing a lot of them after big hits and a local guy told me to let a bunch of line out and just let the bait sit where it was and the fish will come back today it worked.  I know it is small, but it was an exciting fish I think it jumped out of the water five times.  Now the hunt for the big ones!

Congrats on beginning to break the code there Ed.  Is that a girl fish?

Kailua HI?
I lived there for couple years. Loved it but got rock fever. Now I regret moving back to the mainland!
Unbelievable place on earth!

Did you you sashimi the Mahi? I'm sure it was good however.

Man, you live in fishing paradise. Once you gain the local expertise, you are going to be the envy on everyone on this board for the rich fishery you have right where you live.

Sweet fish Ed!  ME and the Fam. are going to Maui this summer for vacation, and I wanted to know if you had any 411 for fishing near black rock.  I am game to go anywhere on the island and fish.  Do you know of any kayak rentals?

Sorry, I am new to the islands and only know a little about Oahu.  I wish I could help you more, and yes Pat it is a girl fish.  I can tell you that rentals won't be a problem most of the areas have numerous rental companies.

Pretty fish! Nic to hear from you.  Looks like you're in a new yak.

Tom, I bought the yak from Randy when I heard I was going to HI and it has worked out great.  The internal rod holders handle the large rod and reals much better.  I know they are not NORCAL fish, but it is still fun checking in with you guys. The other thing is if I leave the drain plug out it is on the top of the yak versus the back.
