Hi NCKA Bruddahs,

Many of you who may own Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder may already know this, but wanted to pass this on anyway. I have a Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder on my Hobie and went I went out recently, I noticed that when I powered myFF up the Lowrance start screen was very bright and when I swithced to the menu, the screen was very  dark and barely visible.
After powering the FF on and of for a few times, I thought that something was wrong with my wiring and ended up turning off my FF.

I went to West Marine in Oakland yesterday to get a new in-line fuse to replace the one I previously had, thinking that I may have a wiring poblem.
I brought my FF in and asked the staff if they could power p my FF to see if it was working O.K. After hooking it up, he told me that I may not have known that the power on and off buttom is also the screen display brightness buttom.
Sure enough, I turned the FF on at the store and the screen was very dark, barely visible, then I hit the power button one time and the whole screen lit up.
Goddamm, I guess it pays to read all the directions when you first buy something.

Hope this helps somebody.

Aloha,

Da Bruddah (Michael)

Lol. This is the single mist common "mistake" for a 'broken' unit.  I see it all the time!  You're not the first & won't be the last.  Good idea sharing with everyone!
