In 2013, ATT started sending me texts that I had to pick up my free phone to avoid my service being disconnected.  Or something similar to that message.  I raged red  :smt013.  I didn't want a smart phone.  I've lost 2 phones from a big ol wily catfish at San Carlos Reservoir, AZ and Kayaking in SC.

Get off contract.  :smt006  Buy your phone off ebay.  For $80/month, my wife and I have unlimited phone, text and 1gb of data.  (Work discount drops it 18%).

Nasty, threatening texts got me off contract.  (thankyou gut feeling)  Get off contract with your phone company.  They are starving and cutthroating each other. Your free phone will cost...$2400...or so.  I hope this post helps spread the message and save money for fishing gear that is far more important.  :smt006 ATT

Damn, I remember when I used to have a $29.99/mo plan. Enter smartphone and it more than doubled.

I got "locked into" a plan from Verizon years ago before smart phones. $16.95/mo. allows me 250 minutes a month. Text is extra, but I hardly ever do that. It covers all the western States, no roaming charges.

I keep paying my bill every month and they keep honoring that monthly fee.
