Hello, all!

I live in SF and am new to the kayak fishing/diving/goofing off concept.  I spearfish and abalone dive and would love to know some places where I can rent a kayak to take out in the ocean.  Also please feel free to suggest models I should try.

I'm guessing there are better places to ask these questions but just thought I would throw them out there by way of introduction.  Also, do any of you guys ever get together for beers in SF?  I would be interested in making an introduction in person.

Pleased to meet you!

Andrew

Welcome.

Depending on how far you want to drive to rent, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, Santa Cruz.  I'm sure there are places up in the Bay Area closer to you that offer rentals.

Welcome aboard.  Like it was already said it just depends on how far you want to venture.

Up in Mendo area there are a couple mobile rentals and tour guides. Albion and Caspar campgrounds also rent kayaks.  If your a diver you already understand the ocean better than most and dress for immersion so that's good.  Try to come to an NCKA event and see how everyone sets of their kayaks and try a few to see what your preferences are.

Welcome!  Half Moon Bay Kayaks and California Canoe Kayak (CCK) both have rentals out of Half Moon Bay, which is a perfect place to try out the salt.  Although, I think CCK mainly conducts their rentals out of their Oakland location.

Guys launch out of HMB nearly every weekend in the mornings, even if they don't post Hook Ups.  See ya out there soon!

welcome

more and more shops are stocking fishing/diving kayaks
sadly they are not all the same and some shops I've walked into try and steer 'me' into what 'they' sell...and the person selling it has not kayak fished or dove- much ,or at all...but pretends to know it all...this is what I've found here at least so far...I am going to new shop this weekend that I hear is better...but if your new it is hard to know if the person selling stuff is doing you a solid or not

That said --we have lots of members in your area and lots of folks with extra kayaks too....find where guys in your area fish on weekends and talk to folks launching or coming back in
this site is the perfect place to post these questions - folks here have true passion and want to see new buyers/kayak folks enjoy and be safe as they start out---and will answer posts...also use the search window here as many questions are there already

look at each new post everyday and when you see members with their location in their posts that are near you send them a p.m  say Hi
folks will bend over backwards to get you in a kayak to try or demo

you may have a great shop by you...the kayak fishing deal is catching on , and maybe a good shop is right by you now..
welcome
Craig

Well.  That is way more information than I would have expected.  Thanks for the warm welcome and I will certainly be reaching out to everyone more.
