Bob and I hit Black Point yesterday morning from just after 9:00AM to about 1:45PM. Big incoming the whole time. We started off about 1/2 mile south of the train tracks. The tide was already ripping in and Bob had a hard time holding bottom. He floundered around for awhile then headed north and fished just past the 37 bridge. I stuck it out for a few hours near the towers for nada. I fished a live bullhead on a three way rig and switched between that and live grasshrimp on a sturgeon leader. Not even a bite after two hours or so, so I headed to where Bob was. Finished out the day with my bullhead for nottadamnthing.

Bob fished grasshrimp and frozen chovies for one bullhead. Released all bullheads (bait too) and called it an exercise day.

For what it is worth, I have been fishing that area for stripers for a few weeks now with little luck. Although I am an inexperienced fisherman, I have tried fishing lures from my yak around the mouth of the Petaluma River about a half dozen times with no luck. I have always done it on a moving tide with little wind, both trolling and casting.  I have tried Rebela lures, hairraisers, kastmaster, spoons, and some expensive Japanese crankbait lures with no bites in the river. Bait may be better with the poor visibility in the water. I had a good sized fish on about 3 miles N of the river just N of Toley Creek on the shore of San Pablo Bay. Whatever it was spit the lure. The water in this area was much clearer than around the mouth of Petaluma River. I know I have a lot to learn, but just thought I'd share my experiences.

Much appreciated, chetbango! Any intel is good intel!

You're right on about the water at the mouth. It was VERY dirty. Already chocolate milk with big clouds of silt rushing in with the tide. I've heard lots of reports of easy limits from shore in Sonoma Creek, and some decent bites around the China Camp area...so we thought we'd give the 'Luma an early shot.
