I fished with Bill and Joel at the forebay this morning.  Great to fish with you guys there again.

Both Bill and Joel seemed to always have a striper on until late morning when things slowed a bit.  Thanks to Joel's tip I hooked into two fun striper one was borderline 18" but I wasn't confident enough in my sharpy tape measure markings to keep the fish (I need to order one of those stick on tapes from Sean) and I also landed one dink in addition to a couple of small bass.  When I left around 1PM Joel was still going after the numerous black bass that hide in the grass and I can only assume he landed many of them.

I burned what little WAF I earned Saturday on a short trip to the Forebay. I arrived around 7:30 and Joel was already on the water. Not long after I arrived Brian pulled up. There where a ton of float tubers out today, I guess next weekend is some kind of fly fishing derby.

I paddled out across the weeds and into the channel. I hooked up about 10 minutes latter but it broke my 8lb line, I had the drag set to tightly. A few more paddles and we ar into a nice little boil but got no love on the top water. So I just started doing what I always do and troll.

Over the next hour Joel, Brian and I all landed fish. I landed 4, 2 dinks and 2 keepers(released).

One of Joels fish:

My last legal fish of the day, a little over 18"

Nice! Damn I was torn. Forebay/Bean Hollow/Forebay/Bean Hollow/Forebay/Bean Hollow/Forebay/Bean Hollow?
I opted for the surf launch roulette because the Fall storms are comming soon and I don't regret it at all (see Allen's Happy Hollow report).
But, man, I just love the Forebay in the Fall. I plan on hitting it tomorrow afternoon in fact.

This is it folks--Oct and Nov are THE months when the Forebay is in its prime. Get it while you can before the storms set in.

great fish!
I spent the morning earning WAF, so I can go to the NCFFB "Fall Bash" next weekend with no hassel.  ( http://www.ncffb.org/bash2006_fall_striper.html )  They are a good bunch of guys, if anyone is interested, there are several of us that yak, the potluck is usually good for several weeks of posting (epic), and the flyfishing knowledge that can be had is stupendous   :smt002

Yeah no kidding. Ken Hanley and Jay Murakoshi alone know their stuff whe it comes to fly fishing for *anything* fresh or salt.
And so do some of the others.

Where are the details on this confab? Been a while since I last fished with Ken and Jay (Kelsey Bass Pond I think it was) several years ago.
But most of those poele are boaters not kayakers so fishing will be independently done.

I landed 3 and kept one. Lost a nice one by the yak :smt011 When Brian and I decided to call it a day, I figured I'd make one pass on a particular shoreline before I got my feet dry. I got into some EPIC bass fishing...the fish were small (avarage was 8 to 10 inchers) but very active. I was fishing right next to a shoreline / cliff at around 2 feet of water - it was sight fishing at it's best (would have beeen better if I was nailing 5 pounders :smt003). I was using a small terminator spinner bait with a black skirt with a white grub on 6# mono on an ultra light rod. Had too much fun and lost track of time - got out at 3PM.

On the water at 6:30AM and out by 3PM = LONG DAY  :smt015

Brian, Bill = a pleasure as always  :smt002

Marmot, you buddy Al (?) was out there - fly fishing with his puppy. He got into some nice fish :smt007

I forgot to mention when I landed I watched some little LMB attacking the dragon flys that where landing on the water. Pretty cool. Once the dragon flys really come out the topwater is insane in the weeds. Time to break out my dragonfly lure  :smt003

Glad you guys had a great time. I expect we'll see AL and Max (his Irish Setter) out there in the pram a lot this Fall.
Al bucks the trends a bit--he use a light sinking line (Type 3) than most but he gets a longer cast and better line control. He does fish the sam flies though. He knows his stuff though from what I can tell.
