Little help on a kayak upgrade

Yesterday I sold my outback. I have been thinking of upgrading to the PA. Just not sure to go with the 12 or 14 foot model. I drive a truck so loading shouldn't be a problem and I have a cart also.

Any comments?

Currently I am concentrating on salmon, but would love to rock fish or crab later in the year.

I have read that the 12' PA can be turtled if going as fast as you can pedal it and then making a hard turn.  I don't have any real world experience with the 12' but I have had a 14' PA for 5 years.  I have never felt like the 14' was any where close to dumping me in the water.  I would recommend you demo both of them. 

Slayer Propel 13 also is same "class" as a PA 12.  Speed, cost (slightly cheaper), stablility is similar.  Can also go in reverse and its a little lighter.  Does not quite have the same amount of internal storage however and is not "Lowrance Ready".

Where are you located?

Well $100 is cheap for two extra feet. People pay 100X that for an extra inch...

Went with the 2014 olive 14' the extra hatch space sold me. Brandon at Adventure in Sacramento hooked me up with a  sweet deal on the 2014. The price difference was way worth getting a 2014 opposed to the new 2015.

I'm happy to say on Friday no more wet but. Buy maybe some hemorrhoids pulling it up a steep boat ramp.

Congratulations!  It won't be that bad loading it into a pickup bed, just try to get as close as you can to the water so you don't have to move the PA too far. 

Loading/unloading will be different and a good cart is my priority. I'll also pick up a hitch mounted bed extender to help support the PA. Just wanted something I can still fish hands free and be a bit more comfortable and have more storage on longer trips. I pick her up on Friday.

Where are you located?

The Propel is not nearly as good for being able to cross shallow water areas as with the Hobie Mirage drive. Hobie has the most complete solutions including all their accessories including gear for fishing and sailing with their boats.

There is a difference in dry hull weight with the PA12 at 98 lbs. and the PA14 at 110 lbs. and in load capacity with the PA12 at 500 lbs. and the PA14 at 600. For a very heavy person the PA14 would sit higher in the water and probably provide more speed for the same amount of effort as with the PA12 - in theory.

There is a third boat that I would also consider as well and that is the 2015 Outback with its new chair. I would cut out the Outback's round hatch and install the rectangular PA hatch that sells for $102 as a kit to be able to store Plano boxes inside. For $2100 with the hatch mod, and with a weight of 75 lbs. it is a PA12 Lite. The Outback is going to be much easier to launch in places where you do not have direct access to the water and a cart is not practical.
