Not exactly south lake, but I know the rental place at Sand harbor has hobies (including a TI!)...not sure which shop runs that concession...

Tahoe City Kayak (Hobie dealer) has two locations in the tahoe area - they run Sand Harbor concessions and also have a store in Tahoe City.

I've not rented from them but I've bought two kayaks from them in the past.

thanks for the suggestions... may just have to rent a paddle yak instead since we'll be on the south side.

you could sail/pedal a tandem island down to SL in a few hours probably...I sail my AI from ski beach in incline to sand harbor (about 6 miles i think) in about 1.5 hr....coming back is always much, much faster

Tahoe city kayak also allows drive away weekend rentals so you can ask them about that.  Not cheap though!  Find one on craigslist and buy it, then resell after the weekend  :smt001

Drive away rental requires me to take my F250 truck.  I was hoping to avoid that and take my VW diesel golf that gets 40+ mpg (no rack to haul yaks though).

If I can sell my wife on the hobie, then it puts me a step closer in getting one! ;)

Malone HandiRacks!  I carried a fairly heavy kayak on top of my Chevy Spark EV with those and it worked great.  Should work fine for short distances.  Or just go up to sand harbor for a day - its an absolutely gorgeous place to paddle, although busy!

Then it's worth it to take her to Tahoe City.
I rented a Revo and Adventure at the same time so I could compare the two side by side.
I pedaled one, Becky pedaled the other and we'd switch.
Rent it from the place in the pic below, then take your wife over to the Blue Agave and then to Rosies Cafe.
Have the bartender make you each his signature drink at Rosies.
You won't be disappointed.
And bring the truck. You just might be driving home with a new Hobie after that.  :smt044
