Went to dicks other day and they had the trevala in the action I wanted. I know they are warrantied if they break but if purchased  threw dicks, will they exchange it for me or must I go through Shimano direct. I can purchase it at hi's tackle and just exchange there .it but wife got dicks CC.I asked and they told me I would have to buy protection plan. Held off for now.

I don't think Dick's participates in OTC returns.  I know that FW does for a $15 fee.

Depends on the retailer. Some participate in the otc warranty some don't. Mel cottons does and that's where I usually bring my broken shimano rods. I wouldn't pay the extra protection plan that dicks is offering

I fish a lot of Carrot Stix rods, Tackle warehouse does OTC returns for them. Luckily they are in my towns, I just really wished they carried more salt gear.

You should never have to buy a protection plan when dealing with limited lifetime warranty rods from shimano.ship it to them when it breaks and thell send you a new one
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Yeah. Didn't make sense to pay extra for a warranty that's already offered free. So if I ship directly to Shimano they will send me new one?

MadCat - I used to work at Tackle Warehouse. Good group of guys. I tried to convince them to open a Saltwater Warehouse, but they weren't biting. Hell, they've already got Tackle Warehouse, Tennis Warehouse, Skate Warehouse, Inline Warehouse... Why no saltwater?

Oh well...

Yeah I love TW. They moved and are now over by the airport. "Riding Warehouse" is now in their old spot. It makes no sense not to have a salt shop since they aren't 20 miles from the ocean and the nearest good salt shop is Been there caught that in SM. Jerry's and Virg's aren't bad, they just aren't "Tackle" shops.
