Launched at 0630 and headed east towards the swimming beach. Caught a few shaker strippers on the troll with a castmaster and fender. Also a couple of hand size LM that are also fun to catch. Nothing legal on this side of the lake so we headed west towards the dam. My partner wanted to pickup some worms to drft with near the dam so we pulled back into the marina. As my bud was up getting his worms I worked the tules with my ultra light Fenwick but no love. When he returned I went to pick him up and docked the tadem so he could get aboard. We then proceeded to the dam on the troll noticing that the lake was approx. 10' down from the summer height.Oh did I mention that when I reloaded my partner at the marina that I layed my beautiful little Fenwick on the dock.
As we neared the dam we went to drift so I placed us far enough that we could jig the bank as we drifted bait. As I turned to grab my beloved ultra light all I grabbed was air. When my partner got back into the kayak I steadied the yak laying my Fenwick  on the dock we just paddled away without  the Fenwick for the next person to claim for their very own. Aren't I a generous fellow :smt012.
Oh well back to fishing.
On the way back we paddled through numerous boils or peddled since we are in a Outfitter. The lake is swarming with bait fish and they must be keeping everything legal full. I did catch one 2 lb. catfish on a broken back rappla.
I did ask at the Marina just by chance if any good samaritan turned in my Rod but would you believe no one did?  :smt102 Most expensive catfish in my carrer of fishing.
Kayakjames, now I understand why you stay away from there this time of year.

Damn that sucks!.  I lost my favorite trout rod off the back of my outback while trolling.  One time I didn't leash it!  Got to watch it bend, (snagged bottom) then slooooowly pop out of the rod holder, then, splash (in slow mo) then sink! Nothing I could do! Till the darn lake opens next season!

Frank,
Sorry to hear about the rod. we all have so much gear to keep focused on, it inevitably happens once or twice. It s a shame the person who found your rod didn't think of that--may Karma bite them in a sensitive place someday and hold on until pain really gnaws at them. And Karma has big nasty teeth.

Nice report of boils. I just might need to get up there sometime soon and chase Striper boils. If there is one time Stripers are in easy reach its the Fall. Yeah.

bummer Frank!  I know the feeling, believe me.

I once left a G Loomis leaning against a palm tree in Capitola and drove home without it.  When I raced back to Captiola Wharf it was gonzo.

After accepting condolences on the wharf, I headed for home again, and the rod was back where I left it (someone had an attack of conscience?)

sorry for the loss, man.

Hey Frank!

After looking at those latest pix, I think we better plan a "batten down" launch for sure.  Tie everything down, launch, and set-up on the water.

We'll check it out that morning, I'll be in touch with details.

(I have a couple other launch spots in the immediate area we can use as 'plan B')

This will be a day where I use my wetsuit for sure, not the waders!
