New here and pretty new to kayak fishing.   I have a floating Promar gaff already, but looking to buy a good net for my Revolution 13 for those days I fish Salmon.   You guys go with full nets, short handles, or collapsible nets or....?

Collapsible, big.

Many people here have shown up OTW with a "mediumish" sized net or "kinda big", and the ones who have been lucky enough to hook a big fish have largely stated "I'm getting a bigger net" afterward.

Get something big with snagless rubber net. Getting hooks snagged is PITA.

I'm not sure you could even get  a rubber net big enough for salmon, and if you could you better eat lots of spinach.that thing would way a ton

As P Sherman said get snagless mesh or you'll spend up to 30 minutes untangling.  That Promar net is a POS.  I have Frabill net that went on clearance at Sports Authority that I really like.  For flotation stick a piece of pool noodle in the handle.  Here's a picture of Raydon last weekend after a 20 lb ling destroyed his net.

Anyone using these?

This has been discussed before but if you are fishing for ocean salmon do NOT get a folding promar or ego slider. They simply are not big enough, strong enough or light enough for salmon. I would also not recommend rubber mesh nets because they are heavier and harder to move quickly in the water. The only time I use rubber mesh for salmon is freshwater when using plugs with treble hooks. This is the net I use but there are many others designed for salmon fishing. I consider this net to be the smallest I would use for salmon.

And yes it does float for several minutes and if you stuff the handle with a pool noodle it will float indefinitely so the whole "it floats" marketing thing is well... :smt011

Thanks guys.  Any net on really large fish has high likelihood of failure (hence why I carry a gaff as well), but good to know the collapsible nets are not up to muster.   We had a huge Leninger on our sport boat, but sold it with the boat.
