I was thinking about heading out to HMB next Wednesday for some rockfish, launching from HMB Kayak. My first time here. I saw on a couple other post where people mention the "red can" and "blue can." I looked at the nautical charts and I see 5 buoys in the area. I see a bunch of reefs, including one right to the SW of the harbor entrance. Can anyone narrow down where's a good spot? Thanks so much for the help.

I don't anything about HMB other than stories from friends and reading here.

Thread jack alert!
But I wanted to ask: Are you going to be at Albion, Dave?

Once you get out of the harbor mouth, go straight towards the southern green can. You won't miss it. Between that and the northern green can is where we usually fish. If you draw a line from the north red can through the green can and towards the shore, DO NOT fish that area! That's  the start of the MLPA zone.

Also, DO NOT take the shortcut towards mavericks. That's a shallow reef. It can be calm, but it will produce some gnarly waves (and I mean some very dangerous waves) from time to time. Hope that helps

Yeah, I can vouch those can be some nasty waves.  When you find yourself standing on a rock way out in the ocean in 1 foot of water watching for the next wave and hoping it doesn't put you down on more rocks...you know you're not in a good place.   :smt003
