I am interested in a tarpon 140 that I found on craigslist for 799 (Will be my first boat).  boat has been used 6 x, with a rudder.  Seems pricey for a used boat.  Any comments on price? or where else to locate a used kayak?
Thanks, Rich

I don't have any comment on the Tarpon 140 price but I picked up my used prowler for $500, it was heavly used though.

Craigslist is a good source as is Ebay, I aggregate all the kayak listings from those 2 places here:

I think Kevin paddles a T140....or maybe a 120....might want to ask him about it.

$799 seems high for a used T140 unless the seller is throwing in valuable extras like a PFD, paddle, or a seatback.  Personally, I won't look at a used kayak unless it's about $200 less than full retail since you may not be entitled to the mfrs' warranty or any shop services that the original buyer got.

Thanks for the replies!  I'll keep looking.  It's difficult to be patient with the spring weather starting to appear here in Santa Cruz!

Rich - you might want to call Kayak Connection in Santa Cruz - they may have used sit-on-tops on sale. You can also test paddle some kayaks there as well.

Good luck!

I think the price is higher than you would expect b/c of the rudder (I think this adds about $200 to the cost of the yak).  The thing is many (most) would prefer a boat w/o a rudder...

I got a Tarpon 160 for $510.  Only problem was I had to go to Ja Lolla to get it.

It is a sweet ride.  Only, thing is it has no deck space.  Was a year old and used about 24 times.  This guy was a runner first.  Messed up his knees.  So, he did the Kayak thing.  Now, this year they are coming out with a tank well for the 160.

I love the prowler.  But, the Tarpon may be faster.
