Is it only in Danville or are there ants everywhere?  We have been invaded by small black ants for the past two weeks.  They aren't chasing food.  They have been in our kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms.  We have been using something called Terro that works really well but I have never seen so may ants.  They are in our front and back yard too.  The Terro "traps" work great if you have the patience to let them eat it and take it to the nest.  It seems to take about 2 days for a major invasion to be eliminated.  We have a pest control contract for exterior spraying which has always kept us relatively "bug" free until the past couple of weeks.  I wonder if this is a drought related issue?  I think they're finally getting under control but the number of ants is nothing short of amazing!

Looking for water. Super active during the heat over here. It just seems random sometimes. I think that you can do a better job spraying your own yard than the commercial guys can. One told me they have a higher restriction as to the toxicity of the compound they are spraying compared to what we can buy at the yard and garden center.

I hate ants. I use something similar called Grant's bait stations all over the house and ant stakes all around the yard. Seems to keep the ants at bay. I put the bait out early in the Spring before the ants come out in mass.

No ants at all at my house. When I first moved in, we had tons of ants.  Try grants ant sticks every 10 feet all the way around your foundation and pour hot water on them after you stick them in. I also used this powder about 20 years ago all around the house and have never seen an ant since. I am sure they have banned it. I think they are attracted to that sexy RV in your driveway. :smt005

I've had so many ants the last few months, that I've given up. They are part of the family now. Sure, I'll vacuum them up once in awhile when they get rowdy, but that's not too often. They mostly just walk around.

Coffee grounds. Natural way to keep them away.

This works on some ant species. Undergoing kitchen remodel; so at the moment, no food or water to attract the critters.

Some ants have a sweet tooth while others are more likely to seek out fats and grease. Mix your boric acid with a couple of different foods to find out which one draws the most ants before you settle on your recipe. You can dissolve sugar in water, use jelly or honey, or use peanut butter or regular butter. Mixing 1 teaspoon of boric acid with 1 cup of the food makes a 2 percent solution. If you're using sugar water, add about 8 teaspoons to 1 cup of water, then add 1 teaspoon of boric acid. If the ants aren't attracted to your baits as well as you'd like, reduce the boric acid to 1/2 teaspoon per 1 cup for a 1 percent solution. Clearly label any leftover bait you store.

I throw this stuff around the entire peremiter of the foundation of the house.
I don't skimp either.
Seems to help a lot.

True story.  If I see a trail of ants in the house, i take a Bernzomatic Torch to them.  I don't know if that completely deters re entry by their pals but it has to at least put a touch of doubt in their little insect minds like WTF genocide happened here?!

Also works great for flying insects.  You don't need to incinerate them midflight.  just barely graze em with the flame is all it takes - deform one wing, melt an antenna, singe a setae, whatever - they fall out the sky and you move in the for the kill.  works great on fruit flies too small to take out with a swatter.

Bernzomatic, baby.  trust me on this one.

Just look out if the little bastards are crawling on your vinyl double panes.  Yeah, I got a little overzealous and got tunnel vision once, didn't turn out good.

My wife mixes up a paste made from Boric acid, sugar, and water. she pours them in Gatorade lids and place them around. the ants take it back to the nest and in two days no ants, for awhile anyways.
