Here's a fishing report for all of you who anticipate bouncing heavy lead on the bottom of the sea.

I decided to take a co-worker buddy ocean fishing with me on tuesday.  We met at 5:30 tuesday morning and headed for the coast.  We stopped at the Jenner Sea Store to see what type of fishing tackle they were carrying and bought some squid and a 10 oz. ling bar.  The conditions were ok, fog and light winds, but 5-10 ft. NW swell.  Visibility was 10-15 ft.  Started making our first drops in 80 ft. of water and immediately started catching blacks and olives.  The very first drop I was showing him how to work the thumbspool and pulled up a black rockfish.  After that example he proceeded to land 2 rockfish before I could get a line in the water.  Eventually I got my line wet and on the first drop with the ling bar I hooked and landed a keeper ling, but unfortunately on the second drop I snagged the bar.  The action was steady from that point on as we got our limits of lings and Catch/released a couple of others.  My coworker had been fishing a couple of times but had never caught a fish so his catches were the first fish he has caught.  Also, a first for me was when I hooked a small rockfish on the bottom and had a good size ling pulverize it and hold on to it all the way up to the boat.  It ended up getting away at the boat because the net was too small to scoop it and it ended up giving the rockfish back.  Another bonus was watching a pilot whale surface 5 times within 20 yards.
