I think it's more plausible that the tag fall off and something ate it, no different than a fish does with a jig, then 8 days later shit it out.

Definitely not as exciting an explanation, but more probable. This would rule out all cold-blooded creatures. They just need to compare body temps of the warm blooded ones and mystery solved!
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I've read a theory stating the sensor fell near a hydrothermal vent

The video is only a short part of a full documentary which stated that the scientists believe the great white shark was simply eaten by a bigger great white shark.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Yeah, I read into it a little more and found the same thing. Apparently the temperatures matched up with what you'd expect in the belly of a big ol' GWS.

More likely is that another great white ate a part of this great white, the part which happened to have the tag attached to it.

Squid and octopii do have blood. It is bluish green in color because it contains a copper-containing compound called haemocyanin. In humans and fish the blood is red and contains the iron compound haemoglobin.  Cold blooded and warm blooded have nothing to do with it the color of the blood its just how these invertebrates evolved over time.
Cold blood animals are animals that are unable to regulate their body temperature (most fish and sharks, tunas, GWS, and makos are the exception). Therefore their body temperature is the same as their environment.
Cheers and tight lines to you all!!!

When the lakes and rivers are full the trout will walk the earth.

I read the temp was consistent of that of great white. Probably a 20-25ft great white gobbled up the smaller great white.
