Hey yeah I already did that but I want to buy one used if possible.

West marine has a nice little standard horizon hx100 for $100. I like mine and I have seen a few other people using them. It's a good starter radio with good power an it floats.

I got a pretty good one at frys for 115 or so i think it was..

+1, and it's a two pack, which is nice if you won't be near a charger, or want a friend to have one its

My old Standard Horizon uses a NiCad battery. The new ones usually use a lithium-ion which is a much better deal as they can go a month and hold a charge until needed. With a used VHF the replacement battery cost can be a killer. Check eBay though if you want a good used item like this.

I bought a new VHF to get DSC with GPS and to get one that floats. As a "floater" it is bulkier but then there are always trade-offs.
