picked up a newell 229f and just finished going through it.  i installed a set of greased carbon fiber drag washers, cracked open the bearings and cleaned out the varnish, greased all the screw holes and installed a larger handle.  the reel is used, but looks like it was never fished.  the price is $125 (same as new retail) and shipping is $5.

the second reel is a red jigmaster.  it also was spooled but appears to have never been fished.  it also has greased carbon fiber drags, grease in all the screw holes and i added a clamp.  the price for this one is $55 (same as new retail) and $5 shipping.

several upgrades are available with this reel, including a stainless steel gear sleeve ($15), a jigmaster power handle ($12), a pete kolekar tapered handle ($30) and a silver accurate frame/clamp ($40).  if anyone is interested, please e-mail me at [email protected].  thanks!  alan

for kayaking, i'd recommend the jigmaster.  i also have four "narrow frame/spool" kits for the jigmaster.  i still think that the narrow spool jigmaster with a power handle is the best reel for the kind of fishing that you guys do.
