I just saw this on Digg (basically a nerd news site)...
http://www.nwfdailynews.com/articleArchive/sep2006/polygraphshark.php

Basically a woman who may (or may not) have caught a 480 lb tiger shark by herself to win (or not win) a shark fishing tournament in Florida has been asked to take a polygraph test.

I'm thinking that will all the smack talk for the upcoming Bendo@MendoII, it might be a good idea if we get one for this weekend.

If I were her, I would refuse.

The results of polygraph are not admissible in court and basically are a PR deal.

Polygraphs are common practice in big money tournaments.  Most of the time, it is in the rules up front that winner may be required to take a polygraph.

looks like a "from da woods" type of event . all that coming down to a polygraph test with a prize being 1500 bucks? that is pretty redneck.

Congressmen would pass with flying colors.  Poyl's only measure your physiological reaction to the question and answer so you could lie your @ss off so long as you consistently maintain your composure......or completely flip out whenever they ask you anything.  Who can look you square in the eye and spew BS better than anyone else? :smt001

I believe they use a polygraph in one of the sturgeon derby's in the bay area.  Prize is a brand new boat.

It is hard for me to put too much stock in a polygraph test. A long time ago I had to take a polygraph test for a job as a bouncer at a night club before I was hired. For whatever reason they had a helluva time gauging me.
The only part I failed was my name. Go figure.

That's why they are inadmissable in court.  They just don't work very well.

I guess if you signed an entry saying that you may be forced to take one, but I bet a good lawyer could get around that too.

Bottom line= polygraph is crap.

From a couple of shows I've seen on TV, I'd say shark tournaments don't work so well. There are too many ways to cheat!
