Hey folks I'm new to angling and new to kayaking but am excited to learn both. I'm in the Redding area and plan on trips to the Sac River and the local lakes.

Always interested in learning so if there is anyone in the area that needs a tag-along let me know.

WTTM and the neighborhood, be sure to get experience on the lakes first before taking on the river. Please be sure you understand what you are getting into on the river and that you have all the safety gear you will need. There are several of us in the Redding area that get together often and would be glad to help you get started. Watch the hookup board or post your own when the temps. drop under 100+  :smt003

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Thanks MrMatt and Sailfish!

Fisheducator, sounds like sound advice. Probably the biggest reason I joined the group.

Welcome aboard.  This may be a kayak angling site, but there are so many that love all outdoor adventures. There is good hunting and fly fishing in your area also and haven't been there in awhile but have definitely had some fun up that way.

Stay safe out there and I hope someone closer to you reaches out and goes fishing with you.

Does the group ever do a float from Redding down to Jelly's Ferry? I have read a lot about it from various fishing blogs/sites would like to learn that whole stretch of river.

Hi InService :smt006

I'm in Happy Valley. I used to fish a whole helluva lot more than I do now but I still manage to get out a couple times a week. Let me know if you want to get after something.

Welcome InService  :smt006
We definitely have a growing number of yak anglers up here, and company is always welcome!

The river is always a good time, like Tim mentioned just be sure you are very comfortable with your boat and skills before tackling it...the stretch from Balls Ferry to Jellys Ferry is a perfect intro though, much 'mellower' than the Redding stretch.  My weekends are pretty packed, but keep an eye on the Hookup page.  We'll be having a demo day through the shop (Headwaters Adventure Co.) up at McCumber on the 21st if you're open.  :smt001
