Okay I've joined the ranks of pedalers.. but I got a deal on a mirage classic, which some of you realize doesn' have the nice wells and mounting brackets that the newer boats have.
So I'd like to hear/see how folks have manged to mount their rod holders, milk crates, etc on the mirage classic.. what recommendations have worked for mounting stuff with minimum holes, or any other mods people have found useful.
I hate to randomly start poking holes in the thing...Danielson's look pretty much impossibly on this boat, but maybe you have  better idea...

And spare me the "you shudda bought the new...." whatever.. its a gateway drug.. and I paid a gateway price.. but I'm pedaling and having a good time, just want to make the best of it.

Thanx!

That was the first Hobie I had, horribly unstable, sold it shortly after my first ocean outing. That being said,  if you are comfortable with it then rock on.  I never did any mods to mine, but I've seen outriggers put on them that would help with the stability.

And I just happened to have a set of stabilizers for sale. Not cheap but very well made.

I didn't get any advice on rigging the classic. 1) a milk crate doesn't fit nicely in the well behind the seat, 2) there are no scupper holes in that seat.  So I'm interested in other things people have done to mount rod holders and such on the classic.
With respect to the outriggers, the "good deal" I got on this boat included outriggers, which I used for the first time last week to try the sail on this rig.  The outriggers are about 20 inches long, and weigh nothin' under way, don't interfere with paddling.  But I also haven't experienced any instability without them, so either way works for me.
Still intrested in clever mods, tho....

Talk to Dan and his crew at Headwaters in Lodi, I am sure they can give you lots of ideas!

Some pictures would be nice.  I can't remember what the "Classic" looks like.  I'm sure my 08' is a little different.
I hope you're aware to watch the forward drive support in the drive well for cracking!  It was a super weak area, (I had 2 hulls prior to my 08' crack there)
Please post some shots of it, then we can help you deck it out.

Now we're getting some ideas!  I keep thinking there's probably a way to drill and bed some rocket type rod holders, but as I recall nothing sticks well to this kind of plastic.
Forward drive support?  Sounds like the leading edge of the mirage drive well somewhere.. subject to cracking.. go it. Is there a mod to strengthen it?

I'll look at yak attack rails.

I found one guy in Australia with radical mods.. based on putting several monopods on the starboard side. Every one bedded with 4 screws.. into the plastic? Into the backing plates? (Neither sounds good....

And thank you for not saying, just buy a Revo...if could buy a revo for what I bought this classic for, I might... but use whatcha got, I say!
Thanks for the help.

well generally speaking if you don't have access to interior of hull to reach behind where you're mounting, you're talking rivets.  but there's also the option of yakattack accessories which can be mounted with rigging bullets.
